Women’s sport is registering record audiences across a wide range of sports according to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). With the Paris Olympic Games just weeks away, UN Women notes that “for the first time in Olympic history, women athletes will have as many places in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as male athletes.” But the gender gap persists: No women feature among the Forbes 2024 list of 100 highest-paid athletes in the world and prize money for women’s sport continues to lag behind men’s.
Gaming is a globally established online entertainment with 80% of consumers playing video games and 85% engaging with games in some form, like viewing games and participating in gaming communities, But average gaming time is declining worldwide, gaming data firm Newzoo says in a Global Gamer Study comprising 73 000 consumers across 36 markets.
Customer support is one business area where companies plan to use generative artificial intelligence. Problem is that a majority of customers don’t like it. They don’t want to talk to a chatbot. 64% prefer that companies didn’t use AI in their customer service. 53% would consider switching to a competitor if they found out a company was going to use AI for customer service, according to a survey by market research firm Gartner.
US-based non-profit organisation Girls in Tech is closing after 17 years. Founder and CEO Adriana Gascoigne told US media that the background is lack of funding. The organisation has some 130 000 members according to its website. Headquarters is in Nashville. Girls in Tech has national organisations around the world. The announcement about closing does not mention the national organisations.
