Advertising supported streaming video services are the winners in a time when households are under pressure because of economic uncertainties and high inflation.  The number of CTV (internet connected TV) hours per household watched increased 21% year-over-year in 2023 with ad supported services capturing the bulk of new viewing, media consultancy Comscore reports. Also Amazon Prime Video said it will next year offer a less expensive alternative with advertising along with the ad-free version.

European countries have the best digital quality of life. Nine European nations are on the global top 10 countries for digital quality of life. The number ten is Singapore. France is the number one explained by affordability of its internet, which is the best in the world, according to a survey by Amsterdam-registered cybersecurity company Surfshark. 

73% of news organisations believe generative artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT and Google Bard offer new opportunities for journalism, a new survey shows. “Our survey shows that the new generative AI tools are a potential threat to the integrity of information and the news media. But they also offer an incredible opportunity to make journalism more efficient, effective and trustworthy”, says  Director of JournalismAI at LSE, Professor Charlie Beckett. 

Another long running family drama came to an end. Rupert Murdoch announced he is leaving the power of his media empire to son Lachlan. In a text message to staff the 92 year old Rupert said: “time is right for me to take on different roles”. Lachlan will now run both Fox Corporation and News Corp with newspapers like Wall Street Journal.
