Facebook will not pay publishers for news. “People don’t come to Facebook for news and political content”, Facebook-owner Meta says. The company is closing Facebook News in the US and Australia as the company has already announced it is doing in the UK, France and Germany and other countries.
Despite many discussions about negative effects with social media, people generally see it as more of a good than a bad thing for democracy. In 20 of 27 countries, a majority say social media has benefited democracy in their nation, according to a study by the Pew Research Centre.
Just a few months prior to the EU elections, the European parliament has approved new rules for political advertising saying the aim is to enhance citizen’s trust in election campaigns and fight disinformation and foreign interference. The EU elections are held on June 6 – 9 when citizens in EU member states will elect 720 members of the parliament in Brussels – 15 more than five years ago.
26% of marketing leaders plan headcount reductions as a result of GenAI in 2024, according to a recent survey by market research firm Gartner. 87% of marketers worry that technology, including GenAI, will replace jobs in their industry.
77.8% of women experience age based discrimination at work at some stage in their careers. Only 12.7% say they have not experienced ageism at all. “Ageism is an ever-present form of discrimination that workplaces can no longer afford to ignore. It is impacting women-identifying professionals across countries, organizations, industries, and sectors. And, the data reflects that there is no age or stage in a woman’s career where she’s immune to it”.
