Opinions about what AI will mean for jobs varies a lot between employees and their bosses. About half of workers (52%) in a US survey are worried about the future impact of AI use in the workplace and 32% think it will lead to fewer jobs for them in the long run, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. But CEOs have another opinion. “While it is early days, there is nothing in our data to suggest a widespread reduction in employment opportunities across the global economy as a result of GenAI. More CEOs say GenAI has increased headcount than decreased it (17% v 13%)”, a global CEO survey by consultancy PwC says.
The new US policy with trade tariffs announced by president Donald Trump is affecting commercial forecasts. Referring to US tariffs on China and a weakening consumer market, market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) is downgrading its forecast for PC sales this year and beyond. Sales of tablets are expected to shrink. By 2026, most new PCs are expected to be GenAI-capable.
The telecoms industry faces a sluggish outlook amid rising costs and competition, muted subscriber growth, and lingering macroeconomic and geopolitical pressures. Despite their being volume growth in the sector, average revenue per unit (ARPU) is expected to decline on average 2% annually until 2028, across mobile, fixed broadband, and voice services, consultancy PwC says in a forecast.
All federal programs promoting diversity, equity, inclusion should be scrapped according to one of the first executive orders by new US president Donald Trump. Just a couple of weeks after this order, new US data shows that women make up 28% of voting members in the 119th US Congress – on par with their share in the last Congress, but a considerable increase from where things stood even 10 years ago. The share of women elected as members of the European Parliament at the recent European elections is 38.5%, down from 39.8%, the Parliament’s data shows.
