Two global attacks on politicians’, journalists’ and activists’ were revealed over a few days. In both cases, Israel-made malware is said the be used to spy on phones. A number of respected newspapers reported that Israeli malware is used to spy on journalists, activists and lawyers around the world. Microsoft and Toronto-based Citizen Lab identified and stopped the use of an Israeli malware used to spy on journalists and politicians.
Software company Kaseya said it has “obtained” a decryptor for victims of the recent REvil ransomware attack. The company said it is using the decryptor together with customers impacted so that they back access to blocked computers. The company did not say it it had paid for the decryptor just that it had “obtained” it.
The EU, UK and US accused China of being behind a major cyber attack that targeted Microsoft Exchange servers earlier this year. The attack affected 30 000 organisations worldwide.EU said there were also attacks directly on European governments. China said the accusations were unwarranted.
CNN is launching a subscription streaming video news service in in the US the first quarter next year and later in other countries. Called CNN+ it will exist side by side with CNN and feature eight to twelve hours of live programming a day, the company said.
Streaming video home entertainment market is evolving. Netflix announced it is going into streaming games to compensate for stagnating and maturated markets. HBO reported growth but said it would delay launching HBO Max in some European markets until early 2022 and focus on early success in Latin America. Smaller challenger, Swedish NENT, was optimistic and said it would grow outside Scandinavia including the US.
TikTok has violated the privacy of young children, Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) said and fined the company Euro 750 000. The European Commission and consumer organisations have since some time also a dialogue ongoing with TikTok with a special focus on hidden marketing and aggressive advertising techniques targeted at children.
