Woman fighting Russian police with Beethoven
When the Russian police officers arrived to detain Anastasia Vasilyeva, the head of a medical union linked to opposition leader Alexei Navalny, she was ready for them armed with video recording, Beethoven and a white piano.
She had just as she reached the middle section of Beethoven´s Für Elise when officials entered her flat. She continued playing even as an officer read out demands that she surrender her phone and computer for inspection, the Economist reports.
“You can applaud,” she told the officials as she released the last chord and turned her attention to their requests.
Dr Vasilyeva’s video of the raid immediately went viral. Police took her into custody, where she stayed for 48 hours.
