Media inflation for advertisers is predicted to rise over the next couple of years. If we assume that an advertiser reached 100 people in 2023, the latest numbers mean that the same plan will only reach 89 people in 2026, based on the global averages, the World Federation of Advertisers’ global lead, Tom Ashby, writes in a report. 9 out of 10 top global markets expected to see prices rise more than in 2024.

Product reviews and recommendations are top content on TikTok. This is especially true for young women who use the platform. A majority of US adults who use TikTok (62%) say a reason they use the site is to look at product reviews or recommendations. Roughly a quarter says it’s a major reason, an analysis from Pew Research Center shows.

About one-in-five say that they regularly get news from influencers on social media. A clear majority of these influencers are men and most of them have no background with a news organisation, a US study shows. 

The rise of disinformation campaigns aimed at discrediting journalists and media organisations has reached alarming levels in Europe, as in other parts of the world. Through tactics such as online harassment, smear campaigns and legal intimidation, bad actors seek to erode trust in quality media, making it easier for disinformation to flourish unchecked, International Press Institute (IPI) says launching an observatory to highlight the attacks.

Women’s adoption gap in GenAI usage is closing quickly. By 2025, women’s usage of GenAI is projected to meet or exceed that of men. But tech companies still should improve trust, representation in training models and diversity in the AI workforce, consultancy Deloitte says in a forecast for media and telecommunication 2025.
